Fellowships for AI Training

  1. Future Faculty Teaching Fellowships: These fellowships offer a two course teaching load for 1-2 semesters at a non-residential campus of Indiana University. Applicants must have advanced standing in a Ph.D. program (90 hours; qualifying exam passed). They must also have a minimum of one year of teaching experience as an Associate Instructor or completion of a pedagogy course of at least one semester in length through the applicant's department, or completion of an intensive pedagogy course offered in the summer by the Graduate School. A Few Departmental Awards for AIs at Indiana University at Bloomington

  1. Lieber Associate Instructor Awards: Initiated in 1961, these awards have been presented each year to outstanding teachers among the University’s graduate students who combine their programs of advanced study with instructional employment in their schools and departments. They receive a one-time cash award. For more information, see Faculty Development—Section G of the Academic Guide.
  2. Chemistry: Because of the recognized importance of Associate Instructors in undergraduate education, the Chemistry Department offers these awards to reward and encourage excellence in the performance of Associate Instructors. To be eligible, Associate Instructors must have finished two complete semesters of teaching for which evaluation is available. The two semesters need not be consecutive.   3. Creative Writing: The Earl Ho Award for Outstanding Teaching is given annually to a creative writing Associate Instructor in the second or third year of his or her teaching contract. The award was donated by the family of Earl Ho. The amount of the award is $500. For more information, see Fellowships and Awards at Creative Writing.
  4. English: The Margaret J. Banks Teaching Award is given to a graduate student Associate Instructor for excellence in teaching in his or her final year of the teaching contract. For more information, see Awards page in English.
  5. Physics: The Joseph and Sophia Konopinski Awards are granted for outstanding teaching by physics graduate students, while the William Koss Memorial Award is granted for excellence in both research and teaching. For more information, contact the Department of Physics.
  6. Geological Sciences:The Assoicate Instructor Award is given to a graduate student associate instructor for excellence in teaching. For more information, see Awards page in Geological Sciences.

National and State Resources

  1. Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE): FIPSE’s main activity is its Comprehensive Program (a grant program intended to support innovative educational reform projects that can serve as national models for the improvement of postsecondary education), but it has other grant competitions of more specific focus. For more information on these, go to the FIPSE welcome page.
  2. Indiana Higher Education Telecommunication System (IHETS): On recommendation of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, the Indiana General Assembly appropriated funds to the Indiana Higher Education Telecommunication System to be used for grants to Indiana colleges and universities who are members of the Indiana Partnership for Statewide Education (IPSE) to support development of programs delivered via technology.   3. National Association Graduate-Professional Students: NAGPS is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of graduate and professional student life in the United States of America. They list a number of financial aids resources for graduate students.
  4. NEA Excellence in the Academy Awards: There are several awards available from the National Education Association (NEA), all worth $2,500.
  5. National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH): NEH is an independent grant-making agency of the United States government dedicated to supporting research, education, preservation, and public programs in the humanities. A good place to start is the description of their Grant Programs
