- Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning
The CITL, a partnership between the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (OVPUE) and University Information Technology Services (UITS), helps faculty develop innovative curricula to increase student learning and engagement, and provides support while faculty evolve their courses and skills to keep pace with rapidly changing needs.
- Instructional Consulting
A wide range of assistance to faculty and AIs in every aspect of course design
for every teaching format (lecture, discussion, labs) including: course design,
syllabus design, teaching techniques, learning styles, the characteristics
of IU students, civility in the classroom, grading methods. School-based
instructional consulting units are listed separately below.
- Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
Program (SOTL)
Affiliated with national initiatives of the Carnegie Foundation and the American
Association of Higher Education, SOTL supports the production and dissemination
of new knowledge about teaching and learning and helps faculty members explore
creative possibilities for application and integration of this knowledge in
specific courses and programs.
- Service-Learning Program
Assistance with the creation or revision of courses to incorporate community
engagement and service with academic study, matching course objectives to community requests.
- Teaching and Learning Technology
Consulting and collaboration with faculty and AIs on how to enhance the teaching and learning experience through the appropriate use of technology and social media tools, including: matching instructional technology with learning objectives; developing online content (interactions, activities, assessments, etc); learning about specific learning and social tools for instruction (Oncourse, Clickers, Adobe Connect, Turnitin, etc); and providing access to specialized software and equipment.
- Writing Program
Consultation on the use of writing in classes, including norming sessions
(meetings with AIs and faculty to ensure consistent and efficient marking)
of writing assignments; course development grants; research into the efficacy
of writing across the curriculum; administration of Writing
Tutorial Services, which assists IU students working on writing assignments
for any of their courses.
- Classroom Technology Services
Scheduling, training, and assistance with media and equipment for classroom
use, as well as training and support for classrooms with installed technology;
classroom database.
- Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in
Teaching (FACET)
Members address the challenges of collegiate teaching, and develop and share
strategies to enhance pedagogy and practice.
- Freshman Learning Project
A yearly seminar designed to help faculty understand the obstacles faced by
students in their introductory classes and to develop new ways to help students
overcome these obstacles.
- Graphic Services
Artwork and graphics for classroom use, research/publication needs, and professional
presentations; consultation with conceptualization of visual materials and
selection of media.
- Instructional Consulting, School
of Education
Support for instructors in the School of Education with course development; Oncourse; distance education; digital video;
web design; desktop publishing; teaching, technology and diversity; course evaluation.
- Instructional Support and Assessment,
Kelly School of Business
Support for the Kelley School of Business with personal instructional consultation, departmental instructional consultation,
course planning and development, faculty development events, interpretation of student evaluations of teaching, and orientation
and acculturation for new instructors.
- IT Training and Education
Computing classes and workshops for faculty, staff, and students.
- Language and Computer Laboratories
Language labs, tape check-out and duplication, tape conversion, international
TV.
- IU Libraries Teaching and Learning
In support of student learning in the specific courses, majors, programs, and disciplines, librarians collaborate on and engage in a variety of instructional and outreach initiatives to ensure students’ successful access and use of information sources. Librarians meet with classes, consult on the design of research assignments, provide contextualized research help through OnCourse, and implement assessments to measure student learning of information literacy. A select, discipline-specific list of resources to inform teaching and research, identify potential outlets for publication, and maintain current awareness on the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning.
- IU Libraries Media and Reserve Services
A wide range of film resources are available to support classroom instruction and self-study, as well as equipment which may be used to view audiovisual material in a variety of formats
- Media Design and Production
Collaboration with university faculty in the design and development of instructional
media; production and support of audio, video, and digital programs related
to classroom instruction, academic initiatives, and university functions;
classroom videotaping
